Restricted tongue mobility can have an effect on jaw tension, breath management, anxiety, chronic pain AND vocal range, color and resonance.
Emily will briefly go over the principles of optimal oral rest posture and breathing, and why they are so important to our health and wellbeing. After the introduction, she will guide us through a selection of Myofunctional exercises for the lips, soft palate, jaw and tongue. These exercises can be used generically to increase oral tone and encourage optimal tongue posture and nasal breathing, at rest.
The exercises will be fun and practical! You can pick them up anywhere, as part of your daily routine, to target a particular area, or generically, in your warm-ups.
A few of the exercises require some tools from around the house. If possible, try to gather:
- 2 wine corks
- A ball of parcel string (and bring some scissors)
- A large button (around 2.5-3 cm diameter) with holes big enough to thread string through.
- A balloon
