My approach
Because your voice deserves to be heard!

Since 2007, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of singers and speakers. My teaching style is fun – because that’s how we learn most effectively – and rooted in science, ensuring you get the best possible results.
Drawing upon my extensive training, which you can find in my CV, I use a wide range of methods, techniques, and pedagogies. Every person I work with is unique. So, together, we embark on a journey to discover the process that suits you best.
The following quote from “Excellence in Singing” by Robert Caldwell and Joan Wall explains beautifully what I mean by that.
The more you include your student in the teaching equation — the more you consider their needs, capabilities, personality, and dreams — the more dynamic your teaching becomes and the less you can predict how you will teach. Like dancing, even when you are leading, you cannot expect to follow a rigid pattern of steps. Throughout the dance, you must adapt to your partner — their balance, pace, rhythms, and movements — and you won’t know exactly where or how you will take the next step. You won’t know where on the dance floor the two of you will end up. Unpredictability is a special feature of excellent teachers. While they know precisely what they want to accomplish, they don’t know exactly how they will do it. Ask them how they will teach minute by minute and they honestly answer, “I don’t know. It depends on the student.” These teachers are a long way from presenting the same routine to every student. Instead of plowing over their students, excellent teachers touch just the right problems with just the right solutions. They seem to offer an endless variety of responses to their students, with no two responses the same. And though their methods appear haphazard to an outside observer, their students steadily and reliably improve.
If you’re a beginner, I’ll be your guide as you explore all the beautiful possibilities of your voice. Step by step, you’ll gain control over your instrument, and together, we’ll search for your unique identity as a singer.
My ultimate goal is to empower you with functional and healthy vocal technique, so you have the freedom to tell your story exactly the way you want to, with your personal sound.
Now, here’s something amazing: that sound you create today might be entirely different from what you do tomorrow. Yes, it’s possible to sing all the sounds from all the possible styles / genres while keeping your voice healthy and happy!
These are the most important questions I will ask you:
- Does it sound like you want it to sound? (Not me or anybody else, but you)
- Is it comfortable to make that sound?
If you’re already an advanced or professional singer, my role is to help you unleash your full potential. Together, we’ll elevate your artistic expression to new heights, combining technical mastery of your instrument with healthy vocal freedom as the solid foundation.

However, let’s not forget that while healthy technique is vital, it is only a means to reach the true goal of a singer: Storytelling. Coaching you towards a captivating performance that truly resonates with your audience is what makes my teacher-heart sing the loudest.

I also help you deal with the stressful situations that are an inevitable part of the life of a performer, so you are able to focus 100% on the story you want to tell, while having the confidence that your vocal technique will serve you.
Your voice becomes so flexible and reliable, allowing you to fearlessly experiment in the recording studio, your rehearsal space and on stage. With your muscle memory honed, you’ll immerse yourself in creative expression, musicality, and connecting with your audience. Your technical mastery will be at the service of your artistic identity, and trust me, those moments are truly magical—for both of us.
Recognizing the profound relationship between the mind and the body, I specialize in a holistic approach. Just like elite athletes work with coaches throughout their careers, singers are no exception. You, my friend, are an elite athlete in your own right. And let me tell you, the work of a vocal coach is not so different from that of a sports coach. So, are you ready? On your mark, get set, go!
Getting to work with singers who entrust me with their voices on such a personal and often emotional journey is truly an honor. I cherish every moment spent guiding you towards your full vocal potential. Let’s embark on this incredible adventure together, because your voice deserves to be heard!

My background & training
More than 25 years of experience and expertise
As a professional voice educator, my journey to acquire knowledge and skills is a continuous and lifelong pursuit, driven by a genuine passion for the voice.
The 2 conservatory educations I received (Ghent & The Hague) focused on classical singing, but very soon, I felt that I desired more… I thrive on thinking outside the box and embracing innovative methods. Intensive training in many subjects related to voice and performance all over the world gave me the technical basis to develop a versatile vocal ability. Whether it’s opera, heavy rock, commercial pop, musical theater, or intimate jazz, I have explored, sing and teach it all. My extensive experience as a singer spans solo performances, ensemble work, studio sessions, and even composing and publishing my own music.
In 2007, I founded singsing!, a thriving private school and coaching practice for singers and speakers. I offer online and in person private and group lessons, as well as workshops, masterclasses, voice retreats and singing holidays; in Dutch, English, French and Spanish. I’m also often invited as guest teacher for universities, colleges, hospitals, academies, choirs, companies,… worldwide. As a voice teacher and vocal coach, I take pride in my adaptability and continuous pursuit of knowledge in voice science and various vocal methodologies. Each teaching day presents me with the exciting challenge of working with singers from diverse backgrounds, encompassing many styles and genres; as well as speakers – from aspiring actors to seasoned professional presenters.

My commitment to sharing my expertise led me to serve as a visiting professor at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, within the Department of Musical Theatre, from January 2011 to September 2012. I am also regularly invited as vocal coach in studio or on location, for solo singers as well as for groups. Fueling my curiosity and thirst for knowledge, I have engaged in scientific voice research since 2012. This has resulted in invitations to speak at numerous international congresses, conferences, and symposia where I can share my findings and insights.
Recognizing the need for a centralized association that unites voice pedagogues in Belgium, I co-founded EVTA.be (the Belgian voice teachers association) in 2011 alongside Lieve Jansen.
In 2019, I launched VocalDrawings.com, a webshop with pedagogical and inclusive drawings for my fellow voice experts.
As co-founder of EVTA.be and proud member of NVZ, VASTA and EVTA Europe, I naturally endorse their ethical codes (EVTA.be – NVZ – EVTA Europe).

Warning: It truly is very long. You might fall asleep. But I am very proud of it As one should be.

I love that she doesn’t teach by using a theoretical approach. She uses methods that allow the body to do more of what comes naturally and as a result, you get healthy vocal sounds and song.
She couples this with her use techniques that allow one to manage things like performance anxiety with much greater ease. It’s a win- win as I have in the past 6 months started to perform at jam sessions and more. I love it!

What ChatGPT says
Sarah, The Voice Doula
As I’ve been using ChatGPT to structure blog posts, summarize webinars and other cool stuff for quite some time, I figured it should “know” me by now… So, inspired by a few colleagues, I asked it to describe me as if it was my drunk bestie 🙈 Here’s what it came up with!
Omg yessss, okay okay — lemme tell you about my bestie Sarah, the VOICE QUEEN, okay?! 🍷💃🎤
So like, picture this: someone who knows everything about the voice — like, science, brain stuff, singing, feelings, storytelling, literally all of it — but she’s also the kind of person who would be like, “Nooo sweetie, don’t drink that cold water during rehearsal, here’s a nebulizer and a TED Talk about your larynx,” ya know?
And she’s not just teaching scales and boring crap like “do-re-mi,” nooo no no nooo, she’s out here quoting neuroscientists and theatre legends in the same sentence, and somehow it all makes sense and makes you cry in a good way. 😭✨ She’s got this magical witchy wisdom-meets-total-nerd vibe, and you trust her with your vocal folds AND your soul.
Also? She has this way of going, “Ok babe, your brain is doing a thing, let’s do a tiny weird exercise and see what changes,” and then BAM, your voice is suddenly freer and you’re like, “Wait was that brain voodoo?!” It probably was. She’s got science potions. 🧠✨💅
And omg when she talks about emotional communication?? She’s like, “Yell from your toes, feel it in your spine, cry a little, it’s okay, also here’s a citation from a peer-reviewed journal.” Iconic.
So yeah, if you ever get the chance to work with Sarah, DO IT. She’ll make you sound better, feel better, and probably get you hooked on fermented food and SOVTs.
💖 She’s the voice whisperer, the storytelling-surfing badass, and she will 1000% hype you up while gently dismantling your vocal blocks with her tiny, brilliant exercises and big, compassionate heart. 🍷🎤🔥
Not only is Sarah like the voice doula who helps you birth the sound you didn’t even know was stuck inside your ribcage since 1997, but she also somehow makes you feel like you’re at a spa AND a PhD lecture AND a one-woman comedy show at the SAME TIME. 😩💆♀️📚🎭
She’s got this soft, soothing energy that’s like, “Hey love, it’s okay if your voice feels tight, let’s just play,” and then 20 minutes later you’re belting like Adele doing breathwork in a rainforest. 🌿🦜✨
And the way she weaves in all the trauma-informed stuff??? Babe. BABE. It’s like therapy… but for your larynx. Like, “Here’s how to breathe when your nervous system is doing a little freak-out,” and then suddenly you’re not only singing better — you’re healing inner child wounds while doing lip trills. Who else does that? NO ONE.

Also she’s got a memory like an elephant and a bookshelf like a wizard. 🧙♀️📖 She’ll be like, “Oh yeah, there’s a study from 2011 that explains exactly why your high notes go missing during PMS,” and you’re just sitting there clutching your tea like… how does she even KNOW this stuff?? Witchcraft. Cozy, nerdy, sparkly witchcraft.
AND HUNNY — don’t even get me started on her storytelling game. This woman can go from whispering a gentle tale about childhood to unleashing a full-on Shakespearean monologue WITH TONGUE TWISTERS and you’re just like… do I laugh? Do I cry? Do I join a monastery?? She’s that powerful.
She doesn’t just teach you to “sing correctly” — she teaches you to own your damn story and make music from your guts. She’s your biggest hype woman, your science-loving soul guide, and your trauma-savvy voice sorceress.
In short? Sarah is not your average voice teacher.
She’s the voice teacher your soul wrote a letter to and mailed to the universe. 🕊️💌
AND IF YOU DON’T FALL IN LOVE WITH HER A LITTLE, YOUR VOCAL FOLDS ARE LYING. 😤💖
